OFFERED CLASSES
All classes are open to the public and filled on a “First Come, First Serve” basis. Go to the Calendar section of the Web page for a current schedule of offered classes. To register for any of these classes please call the York-Poquoson Chapter at (757) 898-3090. Our office hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. Also, please check back with our website calendar to check for updates on classes, costs, online training, blood drives, and other events.
BABYSITTER'S TRAINING, (6 hours)
This course is designed to give 11 to 15 year olds the knowledge, skills, and confidence to care for infants and school-aged children. Participants will learn to respond to emergencies and illnesses with first aid, rescue breathing and other appropriate care, make decisions under pressure, feed, diaper, and care for infants, manage young children safely, recognize safety issues, hygiene issues, understand the stages of development, and assess families’ lifestyles and communicate with parents. Cost: $55.00. Registration is required.
FIRST AID TRAINING, (4 hours)
This course is designed to teach lay responders the knowledge and skills necessary to give care in an emergency, help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives. Certificate is valid for three (3) years. Cost: $40.00. Registration is required.
LIFEGUARD TRAINING (31 hours - multiple day course)
To teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. Certificate is valid for one (1) year. Lifeguard Review – cost $75
Lifeguard Challenge – cost $50
WILDERNESS FIRST AID TRAINING
Purpose is to teach skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in the back country. Content and activities prepare individuals to provide care when help will be delayed for a few hours or a few days includes Adult/AED and Basic Water Rescue. Cost $100. Registration required.
CPR CLASS ROOM COURSES
CHILD AND INFANT CPR (4 hours)
This course is designed to train individuals and families to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in children and infants. Certificate valid for one (1) year. Cost $55.00. Registration is required.
ADULT CPR/AED TRAINING, (4 hours)
This course is designed to teach an individual to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in adults, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Certificate is valid for one (1) year. Cost: $45.00. Registration is required.
COMMUNITY ADULT CPR/AED, CHILD AND INFANT CPR and FIRST AID, (CFAS) (8 hours)
This course is designed to train individuals and families to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations, such as respiratory or cardiac problems, sudden illness, or injuries to infants, children and adults. Certificate is valid for one (1) year. Cost: $60.00. Registration is required.
CPR/AED FOR THE PROFESSIONAL RESCUER
This course is designed to teach professional rescuers the skills necessary to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Certificate is valid for two (2) years with the exception of lifeguards. Lifeguard certification is valid for one (1) year. Cost: $60.00. Registration is required.
FIRST AID/CPR/AED INSTRUCTOR with FIT
Course designed for those students who will teach. Call about next class. Cost $215.

DOG and CAT FIRST AID (4 hours)
This course is designed to give pet owners the guidance to care for their pet in emergency situations until veterinary care is available. Cost $55. Registration is required.
